BMX in the 80's. This was our first attempt and building a 1/4 pipe and leaning to freestyle ahh the good old days.
In the early '80-s everyone in The Netherlands rode a BMX bike. People in their 40-s-50-s remember that time well as everyone has stories of bombing frontyards, breaking bike parts or winning their first trophy. The magazines were the bible, it was all you had and they were read over and over again. It was how we learnt English in fact with every word that we did not understand looked up in the dictionary. New products were drooled over but impossible to get our hands on for multiple reasons.
Oldschool BMX Parts opened up shop in Heesch for a day to bring the BMX pioneers and oldschool fans together. BMX Beat was a popular BMX Freestyle TV show broadcast on the UK's main commercial channel, ITV between 1984 - 1987 on Saturday mornings. Hosted by Andy Ruffell and various co-hosts including Gaz Top (Gareth Jones), Alistair Pirrie and Ron Stebbene.
Edit I made years ago with old footage from Cardiff 's ramp room on north road, Maindy (where the new student flats are built on). Top place to ride back then for ramps or flatland, and many pro's from all over the UK visited at some point. Andy Reardon, Marc Reardon and Mike Cameron were the most prolific riders to come from Cardiff.
