BMX racing is about to get faster. Conceived for unparallel efficiency in transferring pedal power and other rider inputs into lateral motion, the new Power Block racing tire from Tioga is destined to make BMX racers go faster with less wasted effort. The StoppelCross season started a week earlier but last week we were in France for the Vibrations Urbaines. This week however I managed to make it to Boekel for round two where a new track was roped off in a chopped off corn field. A wet chopped off corn field I have to say but at least it stopped raining at 8am and it wasn't freezing. You always gotta see the bright side of life too. Last weekend Formula¹s Steven Wong was invited to meet the President of Hong Kong, who honoured him with the chief executive's commendation for community service award.

Steven received this recognition for his fine results from the past years in BMX and his excellent efforts promoting the sport to the HK youth.

Steven has obtained somewhat of a celebrity status after winning the All China Games in 2006. This was the introduction of BMX racing for most Hong Kong citizens. In 2009, the first ever official BMX track will be built in Hong Kong in support of the Hong Kong Cycling Federation. Without a doubt, a lot of HK youngsters will try to follow in Steven¹s tire tracks.

The votes are in and have all been tallied for this years ABA/BMXer magzines Golden Crank awards as well. This year we received more votes than ever and the voting was closer than ever. The Golden Crank Awards are voted on by the fans and are awarded at the ABA BMX Hall Of Fame banquet in Tulsa, Oklahoma at ABA`s host hotel, the Crowne Plaza, Wednesday November 26th at 2:00pm. Seats are limited so be sure to get there early!

Free Agent Bicycles is proud to announce the signing 16 year-old sensation Connor Fields to the Free Agent Team for 2009. Fields, from Henderson Nevada, has won over 25 Nationals already this year. He is currently the USAC number one, NBL number one and current ABA age group points leader.

Fields will focus on both the ABA and NBL National series, alongside the UCI North American Continental series and the World Championships in Australia. He will ease into the UCI World Cup over the next few years with the Junior Olympic being the goal in 2010 and then the London Olympics in 2012.

Free Agent Bicycles are proud to announce the signing of current European, World and Olympic Champion Maris Strombergs as the newest member of the 2009 Free Agent Team. Strombergs, the 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist of Latvia, will move to the U.S. to take on the next chapter in is already golden career the U.S. National circuit. “It’s going to be a busy year for Maris and Free Agent, but he's already looking forward to the new challenge and a chance to really see what racing is all about in the USA,” said team manager Dale Holmes. Strombergs will also compete in the UCI World Cup, select European events and will defend his UCI World Title in Australia during the 09 season.

Maris will start his preparations for the new season during November and December in Europe. In January, he will move to California
