Pat Laughlin aka Big Daddy is a character in BMX. He's doing his own thing and doesn't care what other people say. He might have crazy ADD but there's always something going on when he is in the room. Or on the ramps. Instead of keeping things simple, he's always doing something different, like the one-handed table on the cover that we normally don't get to see him do. I wonder what this cover will do to him. For sure it won't shut him up. Congrats on the front page Pat. What else can be found in the April 2013 issue? Joey Felix gets the double spread contents page with a no-handed vader. Bike tests come from Verde's Prism and DK's team frame. The Ben Snowden compound reminds me of the POW house. A bunch of BMX-ers in one place with plenty to do. BMX Plus! checks in. The helmet review/test is a good one. Which helmet fits right? What are the good ones? 10 new helmet designs get checked. Mike Day writes a column for Plus! now. Get on it.
#93 of DIG BMX magazine brings you the following. Get ready for loads of photo info:
This all-in-one TSG protection set includes knee and elbow pads and wrist guards for beginners and good deal lovers in early eighties styling. Elbow and knee pads with EVA cup foam and PE caps provide protection against impacts and abrasions. The wrist guard stabilizes hand and wrist with full straps and palm splint.
13 February is when the new issue of RIDE UK comes out. Number 173 will hit the newsstands, the bike shops and if you have a subscription, it will drop on your doormat around that day. I personally find it hard to take a good photo of a bomb drop because unlike in most tricks, there is not really a peak moment. If the rider just stands there with the bike in hand, it doesn't say much. If the rider is in mid-air, it looks like he's just jumping from somewhere. But Jason Phelan gets the cover doing one in Malaga, Spain and of course it's huge otherwise the picture wouldn't land on the cover of a magazine. I'm looking out for the video footage of this more though. I'm sure someone filmed it. Anyway, new issue of RIDE UK, which also has an Anthony Watkinson interview, an article about being lost in Japan, two guys on a holiday, the Red Bull Ramparanoia and they're checking in with the RIDE Reader
-Frame: 21 inch Ty Morrow signature Fiend frame.
Once again The Albion comers through with a unique cover of their BMX magazine. By looking at the covers alone one might not get the impression that The Albion is in fact a free BMX magazine that you can get your hands on through better BMX dealers or through The Albion direct by subscribing to it. Here's a list of what's inside this time:
The Vans iPhone covers have been a big hit ever since the samples came out. They were well made and had strong similarities with the actual classic Vans shoe from the waffle sole to the red Vans tag to the white outside sole. It not only protected your phone, but looked the part as well. With the phones being in constant change, the Vans cover needed to adapt too. The iPhone 5 models are available and cost 5 Euros
After doing a BMX 'zine for ten years (1987 - 1996) FATBMX made it on the internet. The year was 1998. Here to stay.
