BMX Business News November/Christmas 2005

It rules getting BMX magazines in the mail. For a while we were on BMX Business News' list but for some reason stopped receiving it. Now we're back on so we'll do a review of the trade magazine. The Nov/X-mas issue features Jim Ford on the cover who announced his resignation with HARO just before deadline. GT goes IBD again and you can read why. Transworld put on a "Selling BMX successfully"seminar at Interbike and they'r looking back on it by this article. Jay Miron leaves the IBMXFF because he's too busy with his other projects. Chris Moeller's Guest Editorials are always a good read, if you agree with him, or not. TL looks back on the Eurobike show, SX finds new distributors, 1 question - 1 company with FIT Bike Co. Transworld also puts on the NORA CUP awards and they look back on the 2005 edition in Vegas. There's an article on Top 5 selling products and new is the exposure meter with Dave Mirra coming out on top (with a huge lead).

Cream # 15. From France.

We're trying to keep up here, not an easy task. Cream #15 arrived. It's the Nov/Dec issue and has a bunch of stuff in it. Want to know what? Read on.
Edito: Sssshhhh BB is sleeping, don't wake him up. Programme: JB almost pulled a double whip over the famous Marseille hip. News: Tim March naked. And we mean naked. Agenda: events to visit. Chroniques musique: Music reviews (you guessed that right). Grand Angle: DVD reviews. Selection Matos: Products. Selection Shopping: more products that you can buy. Guide des Parks: Parc Guide, man, you're getting good at French you. Concours Photo: Now come on, what do you think this is? Reader photo contest. Pimp My Ride: can't get much easier with these titles. Misters Tricks: Alex Jumelin and BiBi give trick tips to the readers. Velo du Pro: you know it, pro bike check. It's Matt Coplan's bike on page 28. Business: Interbike 2005. L'association: Start a BMX club and get more support (hey, that's my quick translation to this article after reading the first two paragraphs).

Zwanzig Zoll Riders magazine #13.

Ahh yes, the Euros go frontflipping. Tobias Wicke makes it on the cover with a huge one. Intro: Fullpipes; find them, ride them. All kind of news from page 6 to page 9 with Dates, Kuwahara, video reveiws, product news, that kind of stuff. Berlin hosted the Berlin City Games, a big flatland comp and if you made it there, you probably got a photo. The Red Bull Backyard Digger made it down South to Austria and with the help of a bunch of locals, they built trails ina a few days. Great concept. Rampenbau means: Building ramps. This issue hosts part II. Issue Thirteen has a slam section. 13 slams to be exact. The Eastern Tour gets 3 pages and then it's off to some USA sunshine with the Electro Vans Tour (Interbike/Let it Ride jam/Woodward West). Muetze Glatze is an article about porno. Next up is the German Freestyle Masterships (7 pages). Dirt jumpers can enjoy the Prince of Dirt report and if you're looking for a new T-shirt, the product page gives 12 shirts to pick from. RIDEBMX January 2006 issue

Damn, we´re late again with the reviews of the BMX mags. You´ll find a bunch of reveiws on FATBMX this week, promised. Here´s the January issue of RIDEBMX and yes, you saw that right, they´ve got a Flatland photo on the cover. It must have been years since that happened (anyone?). Terry Adams is a media machine. The Haro ad shows the first signing of The Unit, Nyquist´s private "Training Centre". Let´s simply list some things out of the table of contents. That will give you a good idea of what you can expect from Ride´s first 2006 issue. 18 Letters. 24 Up Front.. 48 Pro Q&A.. 52 Diversions.. 54 Then and Now with Ian Morris.. 56 Products.. 57 Product Test.. 58 SetUps with Jimmy Levan.. 110 Regional News.. 114 BIO with Mike Hoder.. 122 End Point.. Okay, that was a short cut. Let´s flip through the mag and see if we can find some interesting stuff for you. Okay, there are two Germans that get a full page ad. Max Gaertig gets the wethepeople ad and next page it´s Paddy Gross in the SNAFU ad. With Spaniard Ruben Alcantara in the FOX ad and Australian Ryan Guettler in the VANS ad, you know that BMX is international and the companies support that. The new Volume ads make me laugh. You may think they suck but I think they rule.

January 2006 BMX Plus! magazine

Raul Reez gets the cover of the January issue doing an X-up stall from a bank onto a rail. Inside Scoop gives away December B-day dates. Here are some of them: 7th: TJ Lavin and Dave Osato, 11 Sean McKinney, 19 Kevin Robinson, December 29 DMC and 30 John Parker. Congrats to all of them this month. The Inside Scoop has loads of funny pictures that would not make it anywhere else in the mag. We love pics with funny captions. A lot of people seem to write in at BMX Plus! telling from the Mail Bag and Ask the BMXperts pages. Dennis McCoy (DMC) receives a well deserved pro interview. He's been a pro BMX rider for 20 years and at age 38 (he'll turn 39 later this month) he's still rocking. That great house he's living in is well deserved. Mucho Respect. The FIT Pro Complete Bike gets tested and receives a great review. A Wall tap how-to follows with Colin Mackay. BMX Plus! loves Buyer's Guides and they've got one in the January issue of 2006 Dirt/Park/Street bikes. 19 pages of bikes and info foy you to decide what to buy next. Poster = Porter. Hang it on your wall. Race fans are not fogotten with a report on the 2005 NBL Grand Nationals. Pro Bike review: Jamie Bestwick's signature GT. Tested: Josh Harrington's signature Premium Frame.

9 1/2 days in Germany. Federal DVD

Making a team video can be a long process. It usually takes months to collect enough footage and sometimes even years. Federal took it another way. They got the team riders in a few vehicles and made sure enough camera's were on board. Then they set off to Germany and filmed the whole thing in 9 1/2 days. With riders like Corey Martinez on your team, you don't need much more time. Corey found stuff to ride right from the start and used everything that was available to clock in his footage. So good. The fact that he messed up his shoulder during the trip and could not ride any more leaves some time for the other riders to show what they got.

2006 BMX calenar by Chris Polack

Chris Polack is an amazing photographer from down under. When great photographers collect their best shots for their own special project, you can expect something good. That's exactly what the 2006 BMX Calendar is. Super quality paper so it will stay in shape in the shadiest workshop too. Riders that are featured at Simple Bike's Daniel Wallis who gets january 2006. Flatlander Shane Badman does what he believes is right even if that means dressing up in some martial arts suit and do a seatgrab hang 10 in front of a temple. Turbo Chris tabs a tree with his rear wheel coming in from a dirt bank. That's March for him. Former street world champ Luke Fink burns some rubber for April and Pete Radivo whips one of those Australian concrete parks (May is his). Russell Brindley rides dirt early in the morning in June and Brendan Jones likes Lake jumping it seems like. July is the winter month in Aussie by the way, they're enjoying summer right now.

RIDEBMX number 90. December 2005

I remember when I used to pick up a Transworld Skateboarding magazine or their Snowboarding version and was amazed by how many pages it had. RIDEBMX (UK) is amazing me these days with the number of pages it has, 180 to be exact. Lots of ads bring lots of pages or does it work the other way around? Issue # 90 has the following articles, I'm sure there's something for everyone.

Editorial by Bancroft, Top 5 with Rich Hirsch, BMX news from all corners of this planet and that includes news from GoGo over in Scotland. A little interview with Macneil's Andrew McMullen, wheel building with George French, Groundforce with Tex, Music reviews and stuff, a handy skatepark directory, and it goes on and on. New Stuff shows nice black and grey products and then KingKong and Odyssey throw some colours in the mix on the next page. Frame reviews; 5 of them. The it's off to Vegas for Interbike and the Vans Let it Ride jam. Worldwide baby. The Backyard jam deservedly gets 12 pages of coverage with some amazing high air pics. Le DC road trip to France is up next followed by Island Life (Guernsey).

DIG MAG November/December 2005 issue number 0049

Killer cover of KP ripping it up over a chain. You try it, you'll crash. It's weird to see the staff page of issue 49. 4130 wesite: Robin Fenlon, Publisher/Director: Mark Noble, Advertising manager: Tim March. If you've followed the publisher change, you knew this was coming but don't you worry, the mag hasn't changed. Colin Winkelmann RIP. Letters, Tight Set-Up and Reader photos are followed by Dig This news (and lots of it). The Flat Earth society concentrates on Lee Musselwhite. Then it's straight into the Videostore. The coverboy (Kevin Porter) gets a full on interview (10 pages) and so does Ricky Feather (10 pages). The wethepeople crew survived a trip to Poland and you can read the full story in issue 0049. Brian Tunney wasted some time transcribing the Bob Scerbo interview. Man, that must suck. Still 10 pages of coverage and 411 on the S&M rider with 4 piece bars. Options049 compares tires, 20 of them. Now go do a skid. The How-To is an over Ice pick and Back on a spine, performed by Edd Allen. If you're looking for cool X-mas gifts, the product page will help you out.

Now what does [twenty] have to offer you this time? The Red Bull elevation contest to start with (cover). Justin Kosman went to Colombia for a BMX race and reports from there. Colin Winkelmann 1976-2005 R.I.P.. The Pump section alsways has a bunch of good (party) photos. Some people will hate it, the rest don't. X-Games 11. If you missed it, [twenty] fills you in with 2 pages of photos, results and some text. The Dexter Hub (Cheap Profile) is featured in [Showcase]. If you're in the hunt for a pair of shoes and you can't decide, this issue isn't going to help. They show 10 pairs which makes it even harder to pick one. Metro Jam Vancouver, check. NBL Grands, check. Brian Castillo in 500 different looks; covered. Find the Sean Logan [I.D.] (bio) on page 76. Mike "Hucker" Clark shows how to do a nosedive 360 on the next page. Robbie Miranda puts in his [two cents] on page 80. He's damn right. We're missing those days where you actually had mud on the BMX track and you had to put your leg out (MX style) in the first turn when you were going speedway style. Racers want it so smooth these days that you could actually ride a "10 speed" on the BMX track. Put the MX back into BMX.
