We received two Covert frames in the mail here at FATBMX.com. On opening the box we were a little surprised on the design of the frames. The Psyops resembled of a Menstrual bike with the pierced head tube. Maybe Keith Treanor is heading the product development department at Covert these days. We doubt it.
How can you go wrong by buying a video that only has the best stuff in it. The Props crew went through their 2005 footage and put everything together in one DVD. All the bangers, all the road trips, all the contests and sessions, but only the best stuff. If you've missed the regular Props issues in 2005, this is the one to buy. It gets you up to speed on what happened at the Metro jam, the Backyard jam, the Rebel jam, the Red Bull Elevation and it has got plenty of real street and plenty of Stephen Lilly. Some other riders worth mentioning are Morgan Wade, Cameron Wood, Ben Hittle and Dave Osato (360 tailwhip bunny hop drop in anyone?). You can watch the trailer on Freecaster by clicking here. It gives you a good idea of the video but somehow the trailer doesn't show Stephen Lilly. He's got plenty of footy in Props' Best of 2005. Bonus section? Best of Props from ten years ago (1995) and the credits of the entire 2005 year. Although I've seen them all, the Best of 2005 gave me a feeling there was plenty of new footage too. Get yours at your local dealer or contact: Props.
Man, we've been covering the Down Under riding scene lately with interviews on Colin MacKay, Dave Dillewaard and Ryan Guettler, a review on 2020 BMX magazine and here's the DVD that actually came with said magazine. Hindsight two starts off with a Dyno commercial with classic footage of Dave Voelker and not so classic 2005 footage. I though Dyno had moved on to making beach cruisers or something but the Australians have kept the brand alive. The DVD opens with the Vans Let it Ride competition that was held at the HardRock & Casino parking lot of Las Vegas.
When I put the Shadow Conspiracy DVD in the player I was expecting some weird stuff. For some reason the "different" ad campaign and commercials around the Shadow brand made me think that way. I'm glad to tell you that my expectations were wrong. Sure, the team rider intros had this Shadow vibe to them with red lighting and CSI like editing but soon after it was straight to the BMX bike for lots of street riding and also lots of dirt.

Leave it up to the Fly Bikes crew to come up with a new Recyclable cardboard DVD case. The Spanish company just finished their first team video called UNO which starts off with some amateur acting from the team riders calling each other for a session. With the help of some pallets and some Spanish music the first part is already a way for them to show that anyone can build something to ride if you use your imagination. The mobile Skatepark (the pallets) is then burnt on the beach.
Featuring: Bike Show Coventry (UK), Nicolas Cambon Bio, Neness Roadtrip, Mike Hernandez bio (USA), NorCal Scene, Madrid scene report, Verthaus jam, Worlds Prague.CZ, Ravage Jam Weil.DE, Scene Ulm.DE
There are magazines around that you don't know of until you see one. Offline magazine from Hungary is one of those magazines.
We're a little swamped over here at FATBMX and have a lot of reviews to take care of. Maybe this weekend we'll get to it. Zwanzig Zoll riders magazine made it easy for us this time. They came out with a photo issue. Right, you guessed it, great photo's from cover to cover. Next to the killer photos issue 14 has BMX news, a 2006 calendar, video reviews, also reports about the Lumberjack contest (where was Gary Ellis?) and has a Daniel Holzinger interview (he's now on Hoffman Bikes through Fastpace). There's a pictorial on the Rebel Jam and sexy photos of Marie the Zwanzig Zoll girl. Max wrote another column and there are three pages of products presented in the 84 page mag. Zwanzig Zoll will be available at the train station newsstands in Germany (starting in April) and even if the cover price is going up with a Euro, we say it's still worth it. BMX from beginning to end. -BdJ
Over in Australia 2020 magazine just came out with their 19th issue. On the cover we've got Corey Bohan doing a nosedive 360, shot at a recent dirt contest in Australia. The issue is packed with Australian riding with articles such as News and shit, State of the Nation, Reformist, a Brad Granthem interview, the RedBull dirt Jam and The Art of Sleeping on a Toilet (aka the Eastern Bikes Oz road trip). Down Under they're also riding pools and page 52/53 are devoted to them. Ride The Wind takes you from Düsseldorf to the Brooklyn banks. There were flames at the Five Dock Jam V2. We need more flames! 2020 doesn't mess around, next page, next jam: Tres Diablos. They must be jammin' in Oz. Next up: The Emancipate & Strawberry Slaughterhouse Halloween Jam at Dulwich Hill skate park followed by some Backyard Jam coverage and the DNA Memorial jam. Josh Cole gets a BIO and so does 19 years old Jacob Burgess and Kevin "Keefs" Neil.
After doing a BMX 'zine for ten years (1987 - 1996) FATBMX made it on the internet. The year was 1998. Here to stay.
