Have you seen Clint's video? is a questions I've been asked a lot lately. The Selftitled video is Clint Millar's first production and it's a damn good one. It features the Australian bad asses on spots we don't get to see too often. If you know Clint, you can understand that it has some strong international content too. The dude travels the world and when back home he works for TripleSix distribution, runs the Colony company, rides his ass off and found time to edit this BMX bicycle movie. Most riders in the video are sponsored by one of the brands that the distribution company carries and includes Ryan Guettler, Clint Millar, Pete Radivo, David Manconi, Kym Grosser, Nick Richardson, Kenny Raggett, Nick Cooper, Mike Lawrence and Zack Musarsa. Funny enough it starts off with a Carhartt clip featuring Belgian Hannu Cools riding on his home turf in Belgium but then quickly moves on to the great riding that Australia has to offer. If you haven't heard of the names mentioned above, you will soon as
There's a new Italian BMX magazine on the block named: SMALL. It's made by Stefan Lantschner and Olaf Pignataro in an effort to grow the Italian BMX market. Andy Zeiss received his issue and had the following to report:
You've seen Kim Hayashi wearing it. You might've even wtinessed Shawn "Swifty" O'Gorman crashing in his and giving it the ultimate test. And ABA’s No.1 Cruiser rider Bob O’Gorman has worn his to the podium plenty of times already. Well, now you can have one of your own as the ALL NEW flat black PRO EVIL's just arrived and are available to bike dealers all around the country. IMPROVED FIT AND MORE VERSATILITY. THE INNER EPS LINER HAS BEEN RESHAPED FOR COMFORT, AND THE OUTER SHELL OFFERS MAXIMUM VISIBILITY AND SUPERIOR PERIPHEREAL VISION. LENGTH OF FULLFACE NOSE PROVIDES BETTER BREATHING ROOM THAN THE COMPETITION.
The July issue of BMX Plus! showed up. I haven't read it cover to cover yet but I'll flip through the mag with you to tell you what's inside. On the outside (cover) is Mike Saavedra doing a nothing with one foot on the pedal. Sure, that's not a nothing so if you prefer a no-handed one-footer you can have that too. The contents photo (a spread in BMX Plus!) is usually a great photo that didn't fit in the article but needed to be shown. Rob Darden turns down at the Metro jam for maximum coverage. The Inside Scoop is the news section that's got some funny photos. Vult, Props 59 and RoadFools 6&7 make it to the DVD review section and mail at Plus! keeps coming in (and answered by the bmXperts). There's a brief history on Number Plates which actually gives some good background info for the Number Plate Art show that we're working on. Seriously.
The RedBull Backyard Build-Off in Matt Bischoff's yard was a unique event and the video that Anamorphosis produced about the ramp building contest is different too. The builders are in the spotlight, more so than the riders. The riding actually is only one chapter on the entire video which isn't enough if you ask me. With all those riders there shredding the place apart it could have had at least 3 chapters. But it's cool to get the ramp builders in the spotlight as Brian Kachinski states in one of the interviews. The video could run on TV the way it's made. Nate Wessel is the main presenter interviewing the three ramp building teams and checking in with them every day on the progress. They only had 3 days to build a section and with rain, defect generators, builders not showing up and jokes being played on the teams it is amazing they did pull it off. One day Wessel himself worked on the ramps for 22 hours straight or something ridiculous like that.
Nasty is back and gets the cover of the August issue of RIDEBMX that is 132 pages thick this time. Not bad, not bad. Nice ads are fun to look at and this issue starts off with cool HARO, DC and Odyssey spreads. Sergio's one-footed invert on the next page isn't bad either. You get two foldout posters. One of Dave Mirra (courtesy of Bell Helmets) and one super size poster of Tom Haugen (Free Agent). I'm glad that RIDE updated their myspace site so I can copy what exactly is in this issue. If you have any further questions after reading the extensive content list, I'm sure Fudger can answer those.
German Benny Korthaus will be the one selling the BMX-UP magazines in the stands of the French Bookstores in the next couple of months. When you happen to walk inside a "Presse," look out for Benny doing a stretched seatgrab superman and note the white spokes. I'll just list what is inside issue 36 and then you walk to the book store and flip through the mag and when it appeals to you, you pay the € 5,90 euros and enjoy the mag on your next road trip or on that rainy day when you can't ride. There's no poster inside that you can hang up in the tour van but maybe you need to buy another mag to decorate the inside of the tour vehicle.
Over the last few weeks my son has taken over the DVD player. He knows how to operate it and now thinks it's his. The Bambi and Peter Pan movies have made room for SX exposed, Skills and Crush. All three DVD's are fast paced MX flicks with a whole bunch of flashy graphics and loud music. Philip loves it and now knows that Ricky rides the yellow bike, Bubba rides green and his favorite Chad Reed rides the blue bike. Needless to say, Philip has a # 22 numberplate on his blue Haro Z12 and loves the home track around the couch making MX noises. When I found a moment I sneaked in Soul # 29 in his DVD player. It almost felt like I was watching slow-mo as the first couple of clips either had some slow riding in it or the editing was relaxed. What it probably was is the change from the fast paced MX movies and then watching Soul 29, making the BMX video magazine look very slow comparably. The main part of Soul is over an hour long making this DVD worth the money.
This past weekend in Santa Cruz , CA 2-Hip bikes held the premiere of their new video titled "Under the radar". The Rio theater in downtown Santa Cruz was rented out and filled up with kids bikes fans. Unfortunately 2-Hip owner and flashy dresser Ron Wilkerson could not be present for the premiere since he was booked into a local hospital. He is on the mend and I heard even tried to make a valiant attempt to escape the hospital to attend. Editor/Rider/Filmer Jarrod Allen introduced the video and called Wilkerson from the stage putting the microphone to his cell phone so that we could all hear him.
This is the second version of the 4Q-Baked Pitchfork XLT. Because of all the changes the price is higher but after all the testing the S&M riders have done, they feel the extra expense is more than worth it. The changes to the new forks are:
After doing a BMX 'zine for ten years (1987 - 1996) FATBMX made it on the internet. The year was 1998. Here to stay.
