Starting off with a 100 page full colour magazine deserves some credit. Session's premiere issue hit the market and it's full of BMX freestyle riding from all over the planet. Reports from Singapore (Metro jam), the X-Games, Germany (Rebel Jam), Braun Cruzer Tour (UK, Germany, France), the Dew Tour, The Netherlands (FAT-JAM), Ryan Guettler's backyard ramp in Greenville, Suzuki BMX Masters in Cologne, Germany plus Josh Hult's Backyard trails jam, Brawlin' at the Belmar and also the Bio Hazard trails shows that they did collect some material before slapping together the first issue. Dave Mirra scores the cover with a turndown at his own warehouse. Ryan Guettler took that photo.
A lot happens around Hoffman bikes all the time. Mat just got hit by a big truck, Christie has created a whole new look for the brand and Mark is taking care of a lot of things at the same time. The team is out there doing their thing and testing the product at the same time. New products we show you here are the Circle Grips, the Mushroom Grips, the Uber post, the Dekko frame and the Fat Free, Buxom and High Rise bars. If you look closely you can spot a sample of the FAT Free forks as well.
Eric Hough helped develop and test the Quamen frame that he is riding. Lloyd Ramsay took some photos of his set up and Eric filled us in on his ride and lets you figure out from the pics which parts he runs.
I like it when magazines are just numbered. That way you don't have to fool the readers with how recent your copy is and you can still sell it in the newsstands as the copy of this month. RIDE USA has released the December issue already but to my knowledge we are still in the month of October. Now that RIDE UK have gone monthly they could go by a monthly title too (this is the November issue) but why not simply call it issue 109. Man, 109 issues down and with 180 pages the fattest BMX magazine out there. It's $7 bucks (USA) well spent as the new issue has the following features:
Sean Methven sent over some info and pics on some of Pro-Tec's new lids, pads, and gloves they have for 08: We have some new knee and elbow pads out called the Double Down's. They're a simple slide on neoprene pad with a ballistic nylon pocket over the knee that houses a removable hardcap and extra padding. They retail for $25 elbow and $30 for the knee.
Ron Bonner sent over some of the Shadow collection that is hitting stores this week. 2008 Shadow is moving on up to a full apparel collection. Sneak peak of that in December.
Dave Rytell has been a Mirraco rider since he won the the Local Exposure Tour. He recently put an '08 model together but didn't give in to the colour fashion. Here's his ride:
The Snafu crew cannot only impressively drink a whole lof ot 8.6's in a row, they make sure they have new products out on a regular basis. We've shot a few pics in their suite that we're going to show you here. Dave Mirra Grips, Morgan Wade Stems and the lightest forks on the market. Make a rundown through the SNAFU product and tell them that those bastards from Aarle-Rixtel sent ya.
In a press release that announced the birth of Tony Hawk BMX bikes Tony had some interesting this to say: Hawk: "I'm looking forward to a long and successful partnership with Dynacraft. Their expertise in bike design and technology has made them a leader in their industry. Together, we'll develop unique lines of "Tony Hawk HuckJam" bikes that will excite the most discerning consumers." At the 2007 Interbike show in Las vegas it showed that the line of bikes was unique but not quite in a positive way.
After doing a BMX 'zine for ten years (1987 - 1996) FATBMX made it on the internet. The year was 1998. Here to stay.
