Former Vans Triple Crown winner Bucky Lasek, has laid down a five spot. That's right, the Bucky V is the fifth in Bucky's crucial line up of Vans shoes, and the sport's great perfectionist isn't messing around. Feel confident going huge in a shoe designed by the guy who has consistently gone the hugest: Waffle tread, super sticky rubber, extra heel protection, and a killer look are just the beginning. Bucky hangs out with BMX-ers so these get our approval.
016 IGNITION: Dinosaur Jr BMX-alikes and Nike 6.0 flying under the online radar in London.
Let's see how international this issue of BMX Plus! is. Why? for the heck of it. The Inside Scoop has a photo of Australian Steve McCann riding an FBM frame and a pic of UK's Harry Main chilling on his Mirraco. Canadian Wade Lajlar has a bum ankle so a good score on page 12. Khalen Young gets a pickie on the next page. Plus tracked down Daniel Dhers (Venezuela) for a 2-page interview. England's Ashley Charles gets a double page spread with a How-To. Harry Main gets a double page spread from the JomoPro comp. South Americans Javier Colombo and Cristian Becerine get a photo from the USA Cycling National Championships. So do Jelle van Gorkum (NL) and Sam Willoughby. Bohan (AUS) sneaks in with a photo on the "Showcase funnies" page making this a respectable international issue. For a full contents list, read on:
Daniel Fuhrmann is traveling all around the globe doing Flatlandshows. He recently came back from South Africa and is currently in the Ukraine. Here is his current bike setup:
The new issue of Ride UK BMX Magazine is now out on the shelves and on your doormats. Gracing the cover is Fit rider Ben Lewis 40-60 grinding the rail at Arsenal football ground in North London. This issue is packed with old and new. One of the most compelling articles we’ve ever run, The Rise and Fall of Stephen Murray, is a full interview with Stephen post crash. It’s deep.
Everyone knows that Eastpak makes great bags. Most of you know that they sponsor a killer BMX team in Europe. Not eveyone knows that you can order their clothing and bags from their website. We got sent a bunch of Eastpak stuff that you will find in this post. Like the Slide Jacket (€ 99 Euro) that is reversible so if you feel like you need attention, you can get the neon green on the outside. Available in Brown too. The Beam shirts have a unique look and go for € 40,= Euro. Might be steep, but you get two years of warranty on that T-shirt. When is the last time you had a warranty on a T-shirt? It might not be the 30 years warranty they give on the bags but Eastpak is confident that their product is good and they're not afraid to show it. Now go take a look at the Eastpak website to see if they sell directly into your country.
This is the third magazine that I had laying around on my desk for a while. The review never happened until now. I have taken the issue with me on several trips already but somehow the moment wasn't there. With the other two mags going online today, I had no choice but get the June issue of RIDE UK on the site as well. First I wanted to know how much the mag actually costs. With Cream and Soul costing less than 6 Euros I actually could not find a Euro price on the cover. In the UK it's 3 pound 40. In the USA $ 7.50 and in Canada the 180 pages of BMX sets you back $ 9.50 Canadian. Worth it? Depends on what you're looking for. Ride UK gets mentioned quite a bit in the FAT FAVOURITES lists that we've been putting on for a while so if the riders out there like it, you probably do too. The recent issue is a collectors edition, but the real magazine junkie collects every issue and not just the one with lots of photos in it. If you need new wallpaper you can
SOUL is the other French BMX publication that you can pick up at the newsstands while you're on that French road trip on the way to the Peynier trails or the Marseille bowl. But, you will need to know how to read French. If looking at the pictures will do for you, and you think € 5,95 is worth it, feel free to support the BMX media. Sometimes you get ideas from picking up magazines. The Frenchys ad for instance is something new. If you're flipping through the mag real quick at the newsstands, make sure you check out page 3-4 for the
When Christian Van Hanja told me recently that Cream isn't really doing covers with photos of riding I tried to think what the last few covers were. The most recent one is of Terry Adams and a chick going underwater. Sure, there is a bike in the photo but it's far from a handrail photo. Doing different stuff needs to be respected, otherwise we'll end up seeing the same stuff everywhere. It's easy to walk the walk. It's harder to be original and take the risk. Underwater flatland cover on a magazine. When is the last time you saw that?
This issue of BMX Plus! was taken to the FISE to do a review on it when I would find a moment. I shared a room with Andy Zeiss and riders were coming in and out all weekend long. In this time the magazine disappeared. Andy is now on tour with the Vans Europe crew so I might see it in the end. Luckily the BMX Plus! site has the contents list of the July issue online. Here it is. And when I get the issue back you can ask me what I thought of it.
After doing a BMX 'zine for ten years (1987 - 1996) FATBMX made it on the internet. The year was 1998. Here to stay.
