Bruno Hoffmann on the cover! Yeah. How many 16 year olds do you know that got a legit cover of a BMX magazine? Congrats Bruno. Issue 132 actually came with a Ride To Glory DVD. A mag + Free DVD should do the job covering their own event. Read all about it, and then watch it on your telly to get the full picture of the following team on the road: Vans, Odyssey, Shadow, wethepeople and Profile. But there's more, loads more. 180 pages of BMX in total + a giant Diamondback pull-out poster. Costs for all this is $ 8.50 USD. Here are a few of the extra's of # 132: 24h of Liam Eltham, Top 5s with Scott Ditchburn, Cicles and blanks with Owain Clegg and Jason Phelan respectively, Crucial BMX, Pedals in the spotlight, Aaron Ross' Sunday Funday bike check, Bruno's bike gets inspected, there's a P5 Jam report, 2 Bio's with Martyn Tambling and James Harrison. The Park Warden goes to Dean Lane, letters get answered by Rhys McFleece and the Final frame is for Paul Ryan.
What does it take for someone to pick up BMX? Maybe it's just a little book like this. Sharlene McGilvray got the job done and the booklet includes interviews with Sifiso, Teagan O'Keeffe, and Jonnathan Chislett. You guessed it, it's a South African publication by Shuter & Shooter. It basically explains what BMX is all about and touches subject such as:
BMX is starting to get old enough to bring out history pieces like the Stompin' Stu DVD. John Swarr and Mark Eaton, producers of the award winning Joe Kid on a Stingray movie, decided it was time for BMX legend Stu Thomson to get his own version of it, focused on himself. Now Stu Thomson is an icon in BMX but there were never really any crazy stories around the man. He was a professional BMX racer in pure form. Did not blow his winnings on drugs and fancy cars and telling from the crib he lives in currently, he invested it pretty well. But there is life after BMX and Stu became a Sherriff. But we're not going to give away all the good stuff from the documentary, you better get a copy for yourself. Parano Garage has them in stock so hit them up.
The September - October issue of Cream came in and as usual it's got a unique cover. I actually talked to Morgan Wade about it last week in the USA and he informed me that it was actually a photoshopped cover. You see, Morgan and his wife Natalie are actually just standing in a studio making funny faces. They were later pasted into the final result. Noone got hurt. Sorry to spoil that. Here's the contents list:
In the USA (mainly) it is a problem for bikes to ride all (public) skateparks. By calling them skateparks, we're actually helping the anti-BMX community with their jihad against BMX. They have actually started to call them skateboard parks now but we're not going in that direction. From now on we're going to use the name Action Sports Park to allow more people to use the facilities. That includes that wheelchair rider in Vegas that does handplants in 14 feet deep bowls. After doing a BMX 'zine for ten years (1987 - 1996) FATBMX made it on the internet. The year was 1998. Here to stay.
