The Red Bull Elevation comp was a huge success. The jumps were awesome, the riders were top level, the organization was perfect, the sound was great and partying was on. We're splitting up the report by listing the 11-20 placed riders first and then the 1-10 placed riders later. Enjoy.

20 Adam Baker. You could take the finals two ways: 1) Take it safe and miss out on the top ten (meaning no money), or 2) Step it up and go for it. Adam was one of those riders who stepped it up, or at least tried to. The three-whip over the first set, that went straight into an oververt 180 degree right berm, caused some problems where Adam lost the speed he needed to clear the following set. Not happy with this he tried it again. With three out of four runs counting, missing more than one good run wasn't ideal. It was Adam's birthday too but that didn't help change things. After another sneak attempt back up on the starting hill he pulled what he wanted (the truckdriver) and continued with a personal victory run down the hill throwing one-handers and stretched one-footers for the hell of it. 

The Red Bull Elevation comp just ended. Before getting the full report online with some amazing photos, we thought we'd give you the top 20 results first. We're giving it away like this but you need to come back to see how rad the comp was and who did what. Anyway, last year's winner Ryan Nyquist did a suicide backflip to an accidential half barspin for 3rd. Team mate Luke Parslow flipped the step down jump on his way to second. Putting 10G in his pocket is non other that Australian Corey Bohan who had been ruling the course all weekend long with a big bag of tricks.

It's not even 9:30pm and I'm wasted. I'm in Canada so I guess that's okay. The top 20 top qualifiers got announced tonight over dinner and free pitchers so things were all good. I tape recordered the top 20 but I'm not sure I'll type out the full list as Jamie McIntosh is going to e-mail the exact copy some time tonight and I'm trying to get back into town for some more Elevation partying. I know that Corey Bohan qualified first. Damn, he's been riding awesome and did 360-s both ways, tricked every set and will be a good contender tomorrow in the finals.  Chris Doyle qualified in second and he impressed me. You know, the thing with Doyle is that sometimes it looks so smooth that you forget how hard the stuff he does is.  At the Elevation trails he raised to the occasion and completely stood out to the other riders. He's got the skills for the transfers and tricks that might bring something tomorrow. Correct me if I'm wrong (the state i'M IN RIGHT NOW _oops cap lock) but I believe Nyquist got third in qualifying.

FATBMX has landed in beautiful Whistler, Canada and things are absolutely nuts here. Sun's out, the best dirt jumpers in the world are here and today they had 8 hours of practice on the crazy jumps. Add some nice girls to that and you've got a recipe for a nice event. Welcome to the Red Bull Elevation contest. When Jay Miron and his crew are doing something, they do it right. Early June they started building the jumps and it took a while before everything was done. 

The Red Bull Elevation Dirt contest in Whistler Canada is one of those events that the dirt riders are looking forward to. Last year's event was a huge success and getting on the invited rider list this year was a priority for most of them. We checked in with a couple of riders who are going up to Canada this weekend.

Did you go to the Elevation last year?
-Alejandro Caro: I couldn't go because I tore my ACL two weeks before the contest
-Adam Baker: No I was recovering from a near fatal crash at the x-games
-Corey Bohan: Sure did. Was pretty much the best dirt contest I've been to.
-Benny Korthaus: Yes I went there last year as well
-Dave Dillewaard: No I didn't. Very mad but nothing was stopping me from going this year.
-Lance Mosley: I'd love to answer your questions but I turned down the invite. It's one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. Hopefully they'll invite me next year and I'll for sure be there.
-Anthony Napolitan: No, I was supposed to but I could not make it.

June 25, 2006 - Louisville, Ky. - Simon Tabron won the BMX Vert competition Sunday in the final day of competition at the Dew Action Sports Tour's season-opening Panasonic Open at the Kentucky Expo Center. Tabron, 32, of Great Britain, successfully completed an alley oop no-handed 540, helping him earn a score of 94.75 during his first run to edge 2005 BMX Vert season champion Jamie Bestwick. [url=//fatbmx.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=1211]Bestwick[/url], 34, of Great Britain, came back after recent neck surgery to place second with a score of 93.50. In third was 2005 runner up Kevin Robinson, 34, East Providence, R.I., who scored a 93.00 on his second run.

“I’m very grateful for this win to start off the season,” Tabron said. “I’ve been working hard and trying new things.”

Jackson, NJ Native Scotty Cranmer Takes Early Lead in Points Standings. June 23, 2006 – Louisville, Ky. – Scotty Cranmer of Jackson, NJ won the BMX Park competition on Friday at the Panasonic Open at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, Ky., the first stop of the 2006 Dew Action Sports Tour. It was the second consecutive tour win for Cranmer, who won the PlayStation® Pro in Orlando last October. He takes an early lead in the season points standings, earning 100 points for the win. Cranmer, 19, scored a 94.50 on his second run and sealed the victory with a double tailwhip 360 to edge Ryan Guettler, the 2005 Dew Action Sports Tour BMX Park champion. Guettler of Beenleigh, AUS., who led after the first run, finished second with a score of 93.75, earning 75 points. BMX up-and-comer Daniel Dhers, Caracas, VEN placed third with a score of 92.00. 

Going all the way back to the BS Series, 2006 is our 15th year anniversary for organizing BMX events. We really wanted to make CFB special this year. We try to do something different every year and to do a event that’s different from any other BMX event out there. Our basic format is it to get the best course builders, provide the best purse at a BMX only event, offer great prizes, and provide the best medical crew at any action sports event. Combine all that with the best BMX contest staff in the business and you have a CFB. We want every rider to leave CFB saying “that was F*%^ awesome!” Our 15-year anniversary CFB was exactly that.

This Snickers Bowl report is fashionably late. But what is late? It's Monday after the contest as I'm typing this up. Spending 5 hours at the London Heathrow airport has its advantages. Good thing I brought the laptop. The photos are already prepared in the right size and all I need is a little text now of what happened and some internet connection. The latter will only be available when I'm back home so please bear with me for a few hours. How cool would it be if there was free wireless worldwide. Updates could come from anywhere that way as long as there's a power socket nearby and I've got the right plug. The hotel actually had internet but after the competition it was time for some Guns 'n Roses and then the hotel bar/lobby for hours of DMC tales straight from the horses mouth. Classic stories, I tell you.

But the reason we were in Donington was the Snickers Bowl contest. It was an invite only competition for BMX and skateboarding and the Bowl was set up in the middle of the Download festival that had bands playing all day long. Thousands of people showed up and I mean THOUSANDS.

FATBMX is at the Download festival in Donington, England. Today was the "local" version of the BMX and skate competition. Basically, the UK version had riders that rode to make it to the event on Sunday with all the big wigs. Only the winner went through and that was Chris Mahoney. He'll have to stay for the weekend but knowing Chris he doesn't have a problem hanging out with 100.000 hardrockers and the better skateboarders and BMX-ers. Bikes, Beers and Bitches is another way to describe the situation here. Black shirts galore and all out for a good time. Mike Mullen won the high air contest that was held after the comp was over. The dude still has it and he went pretty high. It was wild guessing how high exactly he went but the judges declared him the winner. Tool played on stage while Vans man Steve van Doren was flipping burgers for the BMX-ers and skateboarders. At the same time the pro practice session was going on. Jimmy Walker was looking really good. It's hard to tell what his regular way is and what his opposite side is.
