Roadtrippin´ through the Republic: The T-Mobile Local Sessions Tour turned the top German bmxers loose to shred the indoor parks and hang with the locals. Tobi Wicke, Senad Grosic and Alessandro Barbero were recently roaming the five BMX parks in Germany which are supported by T-Mobile, in order to check out the parks with the locals. The three riders travelled over 2000 km to visit the diverse locations in Emmering near Munich, Darmstadt, Grevenbroich, Aurich and Berlin to test the new park features intensively. The locals appreciated it and welcomed the riders with some positive vibes. The pros thanked them their way: Frontflip no-handers, Flip whips and Double tailwhips were only some of the tricks that the guys threw down. Additional support was given by: Benny Korthaus, Mark König, Benny Paulsen, Timm Wiegmann, and Björn “Bommel” Mager. Afterwards, the mauled bodies of the riders were refreshed with a free BBQ provided by the grill team who were along for the whole trip.
Pessac Power Nine here. How do you summarize the Bmx weekend of this 9th edition of the Urban Vibrations in three words? I believe that the "butchery" of Pessac has never well carried its nickname as this year, as the general level of the riders was high this weekend! In an arena of Bellegrave the first thing which strikes is a majestic mini with spine, Braun Cruzer3, which throne under the capital. The configuration of the park is rather sympathetic and the revival of the modules is perfectly assured this year by a tasty mixture of street and park elements without forgetting the Braun mini well positioned.
The trip consited of the new Odessa team that was formed by 4down and featured street tearaways Tom Blyth, Mark Tanner, James Cox, Jim Newrick, Cleggy, Josh Bedford, Dean Hearne, Ride photographer Steve Bancroft, American import Kelly Bolton and myself Bomber.
Battle in da club. The name suggests an ordinary bar fight in a some low price alley club, with more flying bottles of beer than women. But this Battle in da club was nothing like that. This was the third leg of the flatland only BMX contest tour that is held in a new club every time! This time around, the circus hit the town of Nurnberg: the Mach One club, to be precise. Michiel Verberg, judge, and Hoite Polkamp, MC together with Francis, made the trip from Amsterdam to attend this flatland extravaganza.
Well last minute I found out about the flow contest in Ohio. I drove up there with my friend from Woodward Andy Alverez. Got up there a day before so we can just ride the skatepark. I have to say I did like it a lot. Everything was pretty cool; box jumps, quarters everywhere a big wall ride, wedges the whole 9 yards. The contest started on Saturday with the Am contest. When I got there I realized they had a Mirraco booth there with a bunch of bikes set up. Everybody that checked out any of the bikes knew they wanted one too. Getting back to the riding. More than half of those guys should have been in the pro class. They were all doing the big gaps, spins and whips. I think it was mad dog who did a 360 backflip over the box that was nuttttts! Sunday came. Everybody was so excited. Crazy stuff was going to go down.
Last weekend in Petaluma , CA another comp went down at Ramp Rats park. Owner Mike Krnaich gathered together a whole bunch of sponsors , had a product toss and even managed to fall off his bike. The morning section of the comp was for the young and reckless: 15 and under , 15 and over and beginner. These guys were just as much fun to watch as the later arriving pro class. When one of these guys grabs the tire/video/grips/cable they have won its like holding the gold at the olypmics for them.
After doing a BMX 'zine for ten years (1987 - 1996) FATBMX made it on the internet. The year was 1998. Here to stay.
