From riding the Sugar Hills in Aarle-Rixtel to being invited to rock Hellsend in South Africa. We checked in with local hero Tom van den Bogaard and picked his brains on Dirt Jumping on a different continent. 

You just came back from the Monster Energy BMX Triples at Hellsend in South Africa—how would you sum up your overall experience at this year’s event?
Tom van den Bogaard: Amazing event as always! Markus and Janel really know how to deliver a perfect bmx event and know how to take good care of the riders.

BMX Couple Interview: Mitchel Schotman (NED) & Dorte Balle (DEN). 

The Move. Dorte, you made the move from Denmark to The Netherlands to live with Mitchel. That’s a big step.

What made you decide that The Netherlands was the right place for you at this stage of your career, and was it an easy decision?
Dorte: I’ve had the thoughts for a while before deciding it of course, but I knew I at least would stay in Denmark till the 2025 Worlds was over. But after that it just felt right and about time to come live with Mitchel and start our chapter together.

What has been the biggest challenge since moving?
Dorte: That Mitchel hasn’t been much home because of training camps. And that I miss my family and friends from Denmark.

What has been the nicest surprise about living in The Netherlands so far?
Dorte: To meet a lot of nice people and new friends here. And to be close to Mitchel, his family, and their dog.
