Australia’s biggest freestyle BMX competition will enter it’s sixth year in 2009 and is putting on the largest scale BMX Games in the events history. Taking place over the Australia Day long Weekend, the 2009 Rockstar Energy Drink BMX Games presented by Strictly BMX, has more than three hundred Australian and International competitors wheeling their way down to Melbourne’s Docklands and battling it out over Park, Flatland and Dirt BMX disciplines. Competition fires up on Saturday January 24th with the Haro Bikes Park Competition at Central Pier, Docklands. Competitors will be split into Junior, Pro, Expert and Girls divisions with qualifiers on the Saturday and finals on the Sunday. All the action is taking place on Australia’s largest mobile street course which will be set up over water and feature the best street BMX competitors in Australia.

It's insane to think the BMX community meats up in Estonia in January when temperatures are below zero and more snow is expected next week. Beijing Olympian, Jared Graves won his first BMX race since the Olympics today in the third Hog’s Breath Café National Round on the Gold Coast today. The 26 year old found the wet and muddy conditions tough but was determined to avoid a repeat of last night’s round which saw Adelaide’s Brian Kirkham steel the win in a photo finish. “In the run last night I slowed down a bit because I thought I had a bit of a gap,” Graves said about his second place in round two last night. However the professional cyclist knew what he had to do. “Today I just went flat out right from the line I wasn’t leaving any chances today,” Graves declared. “My legs felt better than yesterday.” Graves lead from the start and completed the four straights unchallenged to win his first BMX race since making the final in Beijing where he was unlucky to crash while in medal contention
