The 21-rider team heading to Rotterdam, Netherlands, to compete at the 2014 UCI BMX World Championships, July 23-27, was announced Wednesday by USA Cycling. The talented U.S. contingent boasts all five members of the 2012 U.S. Olympic team, including two-time defending elite men's time trial world champion Connor Fields (Henderson, N.V./Chase BMX), as well as defending junior world champions Sean Gaian (Santee, Calif./GT Bicycles), and Felicia Stancil (Lake Villa, Ill./GT Bicycles) who is now competing in the elite women's division. All three riders will be rocking the rainbow stripes as they take to the course in Rotterdam in just four weeks.Fields won the 2014 Elite BMX National Championship in March and is currently second in the UCI BMX rankings. He will be joined by his Olympic teammates from London, David Herman (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Free Agent Bicycles) and Nic Long (Lakeside, Calif./Haro Bikes). BMX Australia has been appointed leading Sydney-based sportsPR company Sports Communication Australia to a fulltime media management role. The media management role will include a heavy public relations, event media management and social media focus, with Sports Comm Managing Director Dave Lyall heading up the account and assisted by an account director.Sports Communication Australia provided media management for BMXA at the 2014 Subaru National Championships in Shepparton. BMXA General Manager Mark Louis said the partnership with Sports Communication Australia was one that made sense for BMX in Australia.

Pump tracks have been around for years but are gaining popularity. Gaining speed out of obstacles is something that Dylan Clayton mastered in the late eighties already but nowadays you can see kids pump around a track on their BMX bike, skateboard, scooter, inline skates, MTB or whatever vehicle the creative heads at the toy companies come up with. Round three of the 2014 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup took place at the Mellowpark in Berlin, Germany. It was the first time the Mellowpark crew had a World Cup on their premises. After two successful Red Bull R.Evolution events it was now time for an official UCI event. You could see the weird looks on the faces of the riders, trainers and officials who had never been to the Mellowpark. It wasn't all smooth, it wasn't clean-cut, it wasn't run by parents, but for sure it was different. Coming from a freestyle side you're used to this vibe. The graffiti on the wall doesn't mean you're in the ghetto. A security with a face tattoo isn't going to rip your arm off. The Mellowpark crew have proved to be a reliable group of hard working people who have organised many (freestyle) events in the past.With no financial support from the city it was a goal for the Mellowpark crew to have a BMX track at their facility. The R.Evolution track stayed in Berlin and was adjusted in several ways to host a 2014 SX World Cup event. The space for bleachers was used up for a separate first straight that had been added so everyone
Round 3 of the BMX Supercross World Cup series saw the progression of BMX to a new level. Weather viewed good or bad, the track was challenging to race and allowed no room for error and I believe really showed the true all round best riders who can ride their bike well. To be good on this Berlin track which was remodeled by Elite Trax after the Red Bull R.Evolution mens event last year had many new elements especially for the women.Hip jumps, cross over jumps, brick jumps, wood lips & transitions, steep dirt jump style transitions and a variety of shaped corners. Coming off the back of 2 wins for myself in the European National League events I was feeling very comfortable on my bike. In the lead up to this world cup the Australian High Performance team got some crucial extra time on the track. Where I was able to test the full limits of the track away from the event and find out what passing maneuvers would be possible.
