Last weekend we were in Belgium for the World Championships. In 2015, I won the World Championships in Zolder. So it was special to race there again.
It's always fun to hang out in the press centre at a big BMX race. Lots of familiar faces show up every time and some serious bullshitting takes place. From crazy wifi codes to secretly taken paparazzi shots circulating among the insiders. The occasional beer at the end of the weekend to wrap things up is a big plus too. With so many photographers around at the 2019 UCI BMX Racing World Championships in Heusden-Zolder it is a challenge to stand out with photos. Plons is one that sees things in a different way and he offered a photo album to us that's worth checking out. So please take a moment to flip through the pics to see how the Belgian photographer saw the race in his home country.
Two weeks ago we had the European Championships in Valmiera, Latvia. Badly I crashed out of the semi final.

Alise Willoughby (Post) (Chula Vista, Calif.; Promax/GW/Klean/Troy Lee Designs) powered her way to another World Championship title today at the 2019 BMX Racing World Championships in Belgium. Willoughby, who won the rainbow jersey in 2017 as well, qualified for the finals after racing three qualifying motos. Teammate and current National Champion Felicia Stancil (Indianapolis Ind.; Supercross) also joined Willoughby in the finals. “Coming into this I was down in the dumps at the start of the day, I started my day on the ground. You know coming into this I knew it was going to be tough with all the Europeans who have been here every week for the past year and in the rain. None of it was in my favor,” said Willoughby, “I’m really happy I rose to the challenge and I can’t believe here we are.”

We've made it to the UCI BMX Racing World Championships in Belgium just to hit the rain once again. The weather was perfect (if you like the heat) when we left and everyone was sweating like a pig but just before the Elite riders could event enter the track for their first official practice in Zolder, it started to rain. Combined with the lightning, thunder and wind it was time to postpone practice and that's where we're at right now. Championship Racing will be held on Saturday and even for tomorrow the weather doesn't look too good. But the show must go on. And if racing was possible at the UCI World's in Zolder in 2015, it will be possible with a bit of rain tomorrow. But the weather can turn around so could be back complaining about the hear again in 16 hours.
