World-class athlete and BMX champion, Jamie Bestwick has been nominated for The Laureus World Sports Academy’s 2011 World Action Sportsperson of the Year. Bestwick is being recognized for his four-peat gold medal win at the 2010 Summer X-Games when he completed 540 variations, a downside tailwhip flair and double downside tailwhips with the style and amplitude that he’s known for. “The Laureus Awards are the Academy Awards for athletes and to be recognized by that group is an incredible achievement in itself. I’m humbled by the fact that they noticed my win and honored to be able to represent BMX among this field of world-class athletes,” said Bestwick. A British national, Jamie Bestwick was born in Nottingham and began riding BMX in the outskirts of Derbyshire, England in 1981. Have you been riding much over the winter months?
- Not really much, just three times per week, more often I was in the gym or at home studying...
BMX in Belgium is not very big but it is growing, more Racers, more Freestylers and more Old School builders and this weekend it showed that Belgium is ready for the next step. Khaled showed us his "Museum" and it was worth the visit. Over 50 bikes in top condition and more to come so he is kicking ass! Bikes like Kuwahare ET's, Mongoose Roger de Coster/Motomags/Pro Class, Torkers, Skyways, SE's etc were hanging on his Wall of Fame. My favourite was the Cook & Bros bike with Original Frame/Fork,

Now how much are you looking forward to the Simpel Session event?
- A lot, I've been before but only to watch. The course allows for a lot of creativity and I'm most looking forward to the 2 days of practice so I can have a good session on it.
How many times have you been before?
- Only the once as a specatator.
