There's no denying that Mat Hoffman is a legend in BMX terms. Maybe even in the real world when people see what he has accomplished on a BMX bike. In the same league as Mat but then on the skateboard side of things, Tony Hawk is an icon as well. I remember back in 1996 I was in a taxi with both of them over in Zurich, Switzerland. The Freestyle.ch event was just over and we were on our way to the night festivities. I had a reality check right there; look at me, in a taxi with these two in Switzerland, what's going on??!!
Earlier this summer both of them were hired by the Nass/LG people to do demos over in England. That's 10 years later and they were still doing their thing in front of a big crowd that absolutely went nuts whenever they rolled in. They had their doubles down after all these years of doing big events together all over the planet. Two legends on the ramp at the same time, it doesn't get much better than that.
It's Friday, time for another FATBMX Pin Up. We're taking you back to the Nora Cup once again. We might do so (or have to do so) till the end of the year unless you come across some good stuff that we can use.
The next Baco gathering is around the corner. Check the coverage from last year's event and then make sure you're going to Mesh skatepark this weekend to join the fun. Here's the official contest info so it looks like they're putting on a regular event. Be in for a surprise.
Ben Green and Dan Boiski have helped Sam Bryant get a sponsorship through 4Down distribution over in the UK. Ben and Dan filmed and put together a winning clip with the result that the rider (Sam) will receive a monthly package from 4Down for a year. With 4Down selling brands like Lavar, Coalition, United, Shitluck, Animal, FBM and Union, you know that Sam's stoked. Sam will also get a part in the upcoming 4Down dvd.
We've been busy. Really busy. Well, I've been busy. I don't know about the other guys, but I feel like I've been running on empty for over a month. It started out in California. Then it headed out with me to Las Vegas, then it followed me home to New Jersey and held me hostage for two days while we moved out of one house and into another. Following that escapade, I got to sit down for 13 days and work on issue 55. Somewhere in the middle of all that, there was a few plane rides, a few train rides, one bike ride across the German border into Poland, and a complete viewing of 'My Name is Earl: Season One.' When all was said and done, there was a one full issue of Dig done, full of interviews, interesting spots and a smattering of humor thanks to the Sent Items page and Sandy Carson's captions.
