Things are about to change regarding the Time Trials in 2014. It's like watching paint dry, so a change is very welcome. But for this year the time trials are a separate race and a way to qualify the top 64 riders for Sunday's BMX Supercross program. But in Papendal, those who did not make the top 64 had a chance to participate in a race. This is good in a few ways. 1) The track, medics, and staff is there anyway. So bring it on. 2) It will give the racers who flew in from far, a way to race a BMX SX track to gain some more experience. 3) It will finally speed up the excitement for the crowd.

After a rain soaked elite mens practice earlier in the day the Time Trials qualifications at the Dutch Olympic Training Centre in Papendal the Netherlands got started in windy conditions as the wind swirled around the track in all directions. When it came down to the Super Finals it was all business for the girls with five of them managing to boost the big triple step-up jump on the first straight. Manon Valentino stepped it up to third place with Alise Post taking second both improving their qualifying times by over two seconds. Mariana Pajon once again showed her big match temperament in the second and third straights with a clinical display of Bicycle Motocross smashing the course in an incredible time of 37.207 sec to take first place.

Pajon said: “I had a really good gate and first straight, jumped the triple and just wanted to go smooth and fast and just have fun – I'm very happy with the win.”

At the third stop of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev./Chase BMX) won his second consecutive world cup superfinal time trial on Saturday after posting the fastest time around the supercross track in Papendal, Netherlands. In the elite women’s race Alise Post (Saint Cloud, Minn./Redline Bicycles) finished second to 2012 Olympic supercross gold medalist Mariana Pajon of Colombia.

Fields, who qualified in second after his first run, posted a time of 38.064 in the superfinal to secure the victory, just under two tenths of a second ahead of runner-up Jelle van Gorkom (NED).

“Things came together well today. The wind kicked up and was a factor for everyone, but I thrive in chaotic environments. I ran my first lap at 85 to 90 percent to feel the track out, then turned it up in the super final,” said Fields, the reigning world champion in the time trial. “TT wins always validate how strong I'm feeling and boost the confidence for race day.”
