August 2005: Roots Jam not until 2006. A letter from Ron Bonner......

Aug 16, 2005
Hey Roots Fans! Here's a letter from Ronnie B. for you all... I am writing this letter to let everyone know the 8th Roots Jam will be postponed until 2006. What started as a local jam eight years ago has turned into an amazing event and a meeting place for riders from all over the world. Due to all of the changes in my life and business this year I have decided to take a year off and start working on 2006 plans early. We have hosted Roots and put 110% into it because of my passion for BMX and the dedication to wanting to give back to the BMX community.

August 2005: BMX loses a friend and an amazing rider. Colin RIP.

Aug 15, 2005
RIP Colin WinkelmannIt's always a shock when we're losing a member of the BMX family. The news about Colin Winkelmann's death spread quickly which shows how many people out there he had who loved him. Colin contributed to the BMX community with amazing riding and a stunt or two. First time I saw Colin was at a contest in Chicago over ten years ago where he did an amazing transfer from a quarterpipe to the spine mini. It was insane. Colin was already riding for DK at the time and was one of the first riders to try a double backflip in a dirt contest.

August 2005: Vanity Mat? by Michael de Wit

Aug 15, 2005
Suited up Mat HoffmanVanity Mat? You know your girlfriend's magazines has hotter chicks on it then yours, that is just a fact. So I started reading Amy's (my babe) Vanity Fair, just because Jennifer Aniston looked so sexy on the cover, I had to do a sneak peek... And then I bounced into this ad that completed my theory about girls magazines, I found Mat Hoffman in a Johnston & Murphy shoe ad, portrait in a very stylish way... So there it is, Women, style and BMX all in one. Pick up yours today and don't leave it in the bathroom, because we all know that sitting in your own funky smell, is NOT the reason you are in there so long in the first place. Michael de Wit

August 2005: Canadian BMX Dirt Jump Competition; the First of Its Kind

Aug 11, 2005
Jay MironWHISTLER, Canada - Red Bull, in partnership with BMX icon Jay Miron is pleased to announce Red Bull Elevation, the most progressive dirt jumping contest in the world. The competition will take place from August 25-27 2005 on a custom built course at the base of Whistler Mountain. "I wanted to create a contest for dirt, equal to what Metro Jam is for street. Red Bull Elevation is an event designed to let the best pro riders in the world ride to the bet of their abilities," says Miron about the concept. "The best dirt jumps in the world are always built with changes in elevation. Nothing has been overlooked. Red Bull Elevation will give the riders exactly what they've always wanted in a contest; perfectly shapeable dirt, smooth and huge jumps, plus it's moderately downhill, there are tons of transfers and there are even a series of 4x4 golf carts driving the riders back to the top after each pass. It's going to be revolutionary."

August 2005: Fordingbridge Sk8fest report and BMX results. By Lisa Illingworth

Aug 10, 2005
Local contest EnglandThe sleepy forest town of Fordingbridge, UK had a rude awakening on the last weekend of July as a throng of BMX riders and skaters swamped the GBH Ramps skatepark for its grand opening. All kids competed in Bmx and skating comps for bikes, boards and blades. The park was officially opened by George Batty, who at five-years old went on to show up his elders by fearlessly tearing up ramps three times his size on a tiny bmx that looked like it was fresh out of a cracker. By midday the comps were well underway, with a BMX

August 2005: Simon Tabron gets hurt at Dew Tour. Thanks friends for support.

Aug 10, 2005
Simon Tabron get wellI thought I would let you know my news - I have just had a pretty crazy week - I tried a turndown 5 into a no handed 5 into a 9 at the Dew tour and overspun a little on the 9. I crashed really hard onto my side and my head breaking a rib in 4 places and breaking my helmet. I spent a few days in the hospital in Denver and right now I'm recovering in Utah with my friend Chuck Fallon. I am not allowed to fly until next week in case the lung collapses again under the pressure. I have been over-whelmed this week by the kindness of my friends when I needed them and would like to thank them for that. When you get seriously hurt, you really find out who your friends are: I want to give my deepest thanks to Chuck and Lindsay Fallon, Peter Geys, Travis Chipres, Jamie Bestwick, Jay Eggleston, Bruno Maier, Sarah Ostermeier, Mo Moorman, Dennis McCoy, Zach Shaw, Jay Miron, Steve Swope, Jason Burkhart, Achim Kujawski, Stephan Prantl all of my sponsors who have supported and been calling (everyone at Mongoose/ Pacific, Andy and John at Ogio, Kevin at X-Balm) and, of course, Pippa for holding the whole thing together.

August 2005: FATBMX webmaster starts FOUR05 company

Aug 09, 2005
Four 05 multimediaWhen BMX buddy Jos Wissink contacted us in 1998 to start FATBMX online, we had a lot of questions. Basically we didn't know shit about how this internet stuff worked, but Jos offered to help. In fact, Jos has uploaded all the stuff for us until the beginning of this year when he designed a new program for us so we can upload from anywhere as long as we have a computer with an internet connection. This has been a big relief for Jos (not being bugged to upload stuff a.s.a.p) and for us because we do not have to wait until something is online and when we make mistakes, we can correct them ourselves. It is really easy to do.
