Eurobike 2010 has started. We did a quick lap around the Messe in Friedrichshafen to get you a little peek in what the BMX companies are bringing next year. More to come but the show is just open for 2 hours and you’ve already got the pics. How’s that for service? Now open the article by hitting READ MORE and then go through the pics to see them bigger and to read the caption. In the two hours we were not able to talk to everyone yet (would have been nice) and we have not been to everyone’s booth yet so make sure to check back in

In early July 2010, while most of the country was celebrating the July 4th holiday, a group of dedicated BMXers were celebrating the formation of a new company to service the world’s BMX community. BRG – BMX Racing Group was created and has brought together some of the finest people the BMX Industry has to offer. The 2 main partners in the Group are: Christophe Leveque, one of the most historic BMX racers to have ever graced a BMX Bike and Pete Dylewski, one of the most experienced and successful marketing professionals in BMX.

After retiring from competitive BMX racing, Christophe Leveque started US Pro Bikes, a French BMX Distribution Company, and over the past 6 years has become the largest importer of BMX racing products into France. Christophe used the same determination that he did while he was a Pro Racer to take his company to the top.

The Bike Expo had an indoor section and also an outdoor area where some companies displayed some new BMX related products. On Friday and Saturday they were hating life outside because of the rain. People don’t tend to walk through the rain to see new products. But on Sunday we took the effort to get the camera out and walk from booth to booth. Here are a few products we came across. Consider it a preview for the Eurobike and Interbike trade shows that are coming up in a few weeks but expect to see

There are three significant bicycle trade shows per year. The Taipei show, Eurobike and Internbike. But there are plenty more bicycle gatherings around. One of them is the Bike Expo in Munich, Germany. Interesting for BMX? Not really. We did our best to find to BMX related products in the three halls. The trade show has gained in size since last year but is far from the size and importance of the upcoming trade show in Friedrichshafen. We'll get you pics from that show in 6 weeks. But first a few photos from the indoor section

Being "from the media" has its ups from time to time. Yesterday we visited the rolling Oakley lab and got a tour inside the lab where they explained the quality of the Oakley glasses. I've worn Oakley's since day one and I have always been a fan. I had heard Jay Miron rave about this "Lab demo" years ago when Johnny O'Mara did it over in the USA. XYZ vision, I know what it stands for now. Oakley goes out of its way to make quality product and the standards to pass a test

Wanted to hit you with the big news. We just posted this on our site a minute ago, but Jay has worked out a deal with Darcy and Jamie and has sold the companies to them. Everyone is pretty happy with the situation and we have all remained good friends... Jay wrote some words about it for the site.  "I have some pretty big news to announce. I have sold MacNeil Bikes, and Ten Pack Distribution to my business partners Darcy Saccucci and Jamie McIntosh who’ll continue to run them like normal. I’ve also shut down Metro Events. After spending my entire life either on a bike, or working in the bike business I’m walking away from it.

While it’s pretty scary leaving it all behind, I’m super excited for the new life that lies ahead. I haven’t yet decided what that life will be. I’m going to take a while to relax and see what comes up.

I want to thank everyone whom I’ve ridden with, partied with, and

I get questions weekly from people all over the world asking how they can handle problems they are experiencing with regard to skate parks in their own communities. I am in a pretty unique position to offer some advice in this area. For those of you who don’t know me, I built Freedom Skate/BMX Park, a free skate park in Upstate NY in 2007. In order to get the project from idea to reality, I had to do a lot of things from planning the project, spearheading all the fundraising, running for elected office and finally, running the park. In the time since Freedom has been open, I have had the privilege of donating my time consulting with many communities across the US about specific problems they are experiencing.

Here are a few of the most common questions I get:

“My town used to have a park a few years ago but they shut it down. What can we do to get it back open?”

Recently I did a short piece with Mark “Flip” Filipowicz from Albe’s about the impact of corporate sponsorship in action sports, and more specifically BMX. I also asked a lot of riders for their input. The one thing that nearly every single rider said was “if a company wants to get into BMX and really succeed, they need to do it like Levi’s.” I wanted to find out a little bit more about just what makes the Levi’s program so successful so I decided to go straight to the source, Levi’s Team Manager Kathy McGrath

Name: Timmy Martin
Hometown: Northeast as a whole
Brand: SEKT clothing

A new clothing company. What made you decide to start SEKT?
Tim:
I just moved back to the northeast from Austin. It was getting to be too much for me down there. When I got back, me and Doug Foulke just got to talking......a week later all the designs and ideas for what we wanted were done.

Who are all involved in the process of running the business, promotions, designs, etc.?
Tim:
It's just me and Doug as far as the ideas and designs go. Kinda wanna keep it that way. AXELRAD is doing the printing for us, all those dudes are awesome and good friends of ours, so it's all in the family.

Where do you want to take SEKT clothing?

A coming together of like-minded individuals has launched a brand new BMX distribution company out of Midwest USA. March 2010 sees the announcement of Krafty Bike Distribution being open for business, and KBD has already hit the ground running with four brands -- namely BSD, Life?, Ripshit Clothing, and Deluxe BMX – and with a solid team running the company; co-owners Eric Block and Kyle Barrows are joined by Scott Towne and Marlowe Buelvas in sales. Between these guys there are decades of BMX industry experience ready to serve dealers and take the brands to the next level.

“We look forward to building new relationships with shops and riders in the coming future, and will continue to keep the coffee flowing while staying up late as we expand the information on this

One of the biggest adventures of my life began in the Spring of 2005. I started Sunday Bikes and we quickly became known for establishing new standards in frame design. Now, in 2010, my next big adventure is about to begin. I’m starting Full Factory, a new distribution company that will become the sole distributor for Sunday Bikes in the USA. In addition to Sunday, Full Factory will also be the sole US distributor for Carlo Griggs’ UK-based brand, Proper Bikes.

I’m also pleased to announce that Full Factory will be providing support for the current US distributors of the Odyssey, G-Sport and Flatware brands by “filling in the blanks” and stocking the entire range. Doing Full Factory allows us to have a direct line of communication with the bike shops and a heightened degree of interaction with shop employees regarding customer service, product development and even finish specifications.

We have a new online BMX shop in the uk called 'theLAB'. We are primarily a bmx shop, but we also sell independant clothing labels, and we have signed a deal with Total BMX to be their UK distributor. Our website is currently under construction but if you go to the holding page you can find details of how to enter our competition to win the first Mark Webb signature frame "the Voltron" in the country. All you have to do is go to backtothelab.co.uk and click on the competition link. You then have to give us a reason why you think we should give the frame to you. Funniest one wins, so no sob stories please!
