This past weekend in Redmond, Oregon, the USA BMX Great Northwest Nationals at the Hooker Events Center attracted a 35.41% increase in participation over last year. For the fourth time in eight stops, the USA BMX National Series boasted a double-digit percentage increase over the previous year. "We knew that coming off of an Olympic year that excitement would be good," said John David, COO of USA BMX. Physical in shape, but the results are not there yet because of personal stress at home costing me too much energy… 4 weeks ago me and the rest of the team did a British Championship race in Manchester. For me it was the first time over there at that great indoor facility and it was fun racing SX again. Saturday racing was one to forget right away, because I went out the heats for the first time in my life…

A strong field of more than 200 athletes, representing 26 countries will compete at the Manchester Cycling Centre (GBR) on April 19th and 20th in the first round of the 2013 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup. Home to the Team GB’s BMX squad, the centre houses the only permanent BMX Supercross indoor facility in the world. All eyes will therefore be on local riders and London 2012 finalists Liam Phillips and Shanaze Reade, who know the Manchester track inside out.

Another strong contender is Sam Willoughby (AUS), who will be looking to continue the form he demonstrated in 2012, when he won the overall BMX Supercross World Cup title, the World Championships and a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games.

In the women’s category, Alise Post (USA) showed great pre-season form and will certainly look to challenge home-town favourite Reade. But so will Laura Smulders (NED), winner of the 2012 World Cup, and reigning World Champion Magalie Pottier (FRA).

The UCI has renewed its partnership with BMX gate manufacturer, ProStuff. Under this agreement, ProStuff will be the sole supplier of BMX gates for the next 4 years at all UCI BMX Supercross World Cups (managed by GSX), the UCI BMX World Championships and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. It is essential to ensure a safe, reliable and consistent starting system for riders throughout the season. ProStuff will also provide upgrades and new systems to the World Cycling Centre (WCC) in Aigle, Switzerland, consistent with the latest technology available. This will support the WCC’s development work with the best BMX riders in the world. 

Keeping with the tradition of progressive learning everything about the SX Hill project was designed to safely prepare riders for SX racing. The BMX Racing community has come to us each summer for the last 5 years, and each year we try to offer something new so we can continually help riders progress.

The UCI BMX Supercross World Cup is about to kick off the 2013 season in Manchester, UK. This year marks the 10 year anniversary of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Series. BMX Supercross revitalized BMX racing with its exciting and spectacular races for Elite riders.

The sport has come a long way in 10 years, with it’s first Olympic aperance in Beijing 2008 and the succesful 2012 Olympic Games in London.

A record New Zealand team of more than 800 will content the 2013 UCI BMX World Championships to be held in Auckland. The championships, expected to attract 2500 riders from more than 30 countries, will be staged on 24-28 July at Vector Arena in downtown Auckland.
