The first day of BMX racing at the Sea Otter classic was washed out. A few drops started to come down as I headed towards the track and by the time I got there it was a steady downpour. My friends over in the Fringe Gear tent were kind enough to give myself and my camera shelter. Then it really started coming down with the help of the wind and flooded half the tent. Before it turned into Waterworld 2, I spoke to a few of the racers and had a look at the track. The layout was very simple with no large jumps and slick soil. Basically some built up berms and a few rollers.

There's a good reason why you haven't seen REDLINE's SHANAZE READE at a BMX track for the past month. Her and fellow British Cycling teammates had been putting in some "track" time of another kind. At the Track Cycling World Championships being held in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, Shanaze was paired up with Victoria Pendleton to compete in the Womens Team Sprint. TRACK, you say? It's not what you think--this one has no dirt or jumps, but does feature high banked berms.

Gilbert, AZ. The American Bicycle Association has been in the business of BMX racing since 1977 and for our 30th Anniversary we decided to make all the years of ABA BMX race photos available online through ababmxphotos.com. ABA Vice President, BA Anderson stated "Many of the photos we shoot at each national event are never used in publication or seen by the public. To say that we have an abundance of photos is an understatement. From a historical perspective, the amount of photos and slides in the archives is priceless".
We are launching the web site with the existing archival images already in a digital format, shot by BMXer editor/phtographer Dan Mooney and past ABA photographers as well. It’s still a work in progress as we have over 500,000 plus photos to add from the last 30 years of ABA BMX. Once a month or so we will be adding vintage photos, so check back often.

Due to the sunny weather over 15.000 people showed up to watch the racing in the MX1 and MX2 classes. A new season means new bikes, new outfits, new teams, new pits set-ups and new goals for every rider. With the absence of Stefan Everts, the MX1 class is pretty open. Stefan won it the last 6 years in a row or something but he's now the KTM team manager and helping the factory riders to win their first title.
