The way I got into BMX was by imitating motocross. We took a bicycle, built some motocross like tracks and made the noise ourselves. Still fascinated by the sport I visited the Grand Prix of the Benelux last weekend to watch the best pro riders scoring points for that world championship title at the end of the year. Check a few of my pics by going here. This weekend it's back to the BMX bike for the Helm Jam on Sunday. Come on out and do some MX table, whips and don't forget to bring the braapp! noise. Here's the BMX news of this week:

-Over in Malaga Ruben Alcantara and his buddies built a Motocross size hip. Read the story and get inspired. More speed + bigger take offs = bigger airs.

-Talking about bigger airs, are Patrick Guimez and Vincent Massardier really going to jump FMX ramps at the Masters Of Dirt in Malta? Here's what the announcement says: Vincent Massardier and Patrick Guimez (FR). The Masters Of Dirt BMX-heroes will, dragged by motorbikes, jump the FMX kickers and even land on the FMX landings. They were the world's first riders landing a fronflip on a mobile landing at the Masters Of Dirt in Belfast 2009.

-Ryan Guettler won the ASA Big Air Triple contest in Minneapolis last weekend. He beat TJ Ellis in the process who finished 2nd and Rob Darden finished third. This weekend the saga continues and the same set up will be put up in Chicago. Will home town favourite Koji Kraft go nuts? Of course he will. He goes nuts all the time. Will he puke on the ramps? that will depend on the party the night before. Alessandro Barbero is also on the starting list and rides against TJ Ellis in the first round. Stoked on that (not). Stay tuned for results.

-Next to being the Dutch Coach for BMX racing, Bas de Bever is now also the coach of the Track cyclists. Velodrome stuff, you know.

-Okay, you don't have a foampit or a resi to your disposal. Lakejumping is another option. The giant ramp that was set up in Eindhoven a while ago has now been moved to Aqua Best a few miles down the road. Official opening of the ramp will be on Sunday 17 May 2009.

-The Maverick park in Dorchester is now open to the public. And that means bikes too. Check one two.

-New mags out this week: Rebelyell and we also received the new issue of Freedom BMX today as well. Support the BMX media. Don't order that last beer tonight, spend it on a magazine. Makes you feel better in the morning too.
