The HARO team went on tour in Japan last week. To end the trip they had a demo planned at the Red Bull Circle Of Balance event. The night before showtime only a frame of a jump box was finished. When we returned the next day, a complete quarterpipe, jumpbox, quarter was finished, freshly painted in black. Although they did get the measurements wrong, the experienced HARO team consisting of DMC, Nasty, Casey, Klinger, Napolitan, MacKay, Nyquist and Enarson knew how to turn it on.
It was a great surprise for the flatland fans who were waiting in line for the event to see these pros destroy the set-up. Some Japanese girl was on the mic trying to put the right face by the right name while the riders flipped, whipped and styled over the jump box. Doing a demo with 8 high caliber riders can only lead to good tricks. When one rider pulls something that's on the limit, the next rider wants to top it. You don't want to be schooled by a young kid like Pat Casey, or the old vet they call the DMC. The motivation came from the riding, and the crowd as well. The flatland pro riders had a break in their warm-up because they did not want to miss the HARO show. At the same time, the HARO riders were impressed by the size of the
flatland event. It wasn't the typical contest under a bridge, but one with a live TV production, a VIP area with free drinks and food, the best flatland riders in the world and sold out arena. Respect both ways.BdJ
