Name: Andy Buckworth
Age: 20

Congratulations on the double frontie! Tell me a little about how you learned that trick. How many attempts did it take before you landed it? What was the hardest part about learning it?
Andy: Well, it’s something I’ve been playing with for a while now but just as a joke. Then that day I had the perfect ramp and a Motox foam pit right next to the jump. I tried like 3 in the pit and they worked out so I just took it to the jump. Took three tries on the jump and I was rolling away.

You are a rider who can pull huge big air bangers as well as plenty of super tech tricks. What are some of your favorite

tricks and is there any trick you are working on now we’ll be seeing in this year’s contests?
Andy:
I’m just playing with a lot of front flip tricks. You will just have to wait and see.

I know you are in the US for just a couple of months before you head back to Australia for the Nitro Circus. What kinds of things are you doing while you are here right now?
Andy:
Just riding as much as I can at Woodward Camp.

There is a lot of buzz about you and your riding right now, especially after the double front flip video dropped. A podium finish certainly isn’t out of the question at any of this year’s Dew Tour stops. What would you do with your winnings should you place at any of the stops?
Andy:
I’d save it or maybe use a bit of it for a car over here to get me from A to B.

When you aren’t riding your bike, what kinds of thing do you like to do?
Andy:
I just chill with mates, beach, play on my computer, watch movies and I don’t know, what ever comes up.

In the US, we think of Australia in terms of kangaroos, wombats, wallabies and dingoes. Just how common is it to see any of these creatures? Is it common to see them as “roadkill” on the side of the road? Have you ever had a run in with any of these creatures?
Andy:
Um, not really. The only one out of that list would be the kangaroo. You see them as road kill a bit but only as you get away from the city. As for the others, I’m sure you could find them if you know where to look.

Tell me a little bit about the Australian BMX scene. How is it different than what you’ve seen during your time in the States? Or how is it similar?
Andy:
We definitely have the same trends. Brakeless is really big now but there aren’t as many crazy shredders as there are here (in the US). That’s just because we don't have as many amazing parks like there are here.

Who are your favorite riders to ride with? Who are your favorite riders to watch?
A
ndy: Well, as an Aussie kid I’ve always looked up to Ryan Guettler but to ride with would be: Daniel Dhers, Anthony Napolitan, Steve McCann and Jamie Bestwick, pretty much anyone I ride with every day.

Favorite road food?
Andy:
Tim Tams

What are your goals for 2010?
Andy:
Have a whole bunch of fun riding my bike and maybe make some money doing it.

Each year, BMX tricks get bigger, wilder and crazier.  Look for Andy Buckworth to add to that trend this year. This up and coming Aussie is a rider to watch in 2010.
